BIOGRAPHY
Julien Misati Ehrensperger is a Swiss – Kenyan electric guitar player and composer. He was born in 1996 in Biel/Bienne, spent part of his childhood in Kenya, and most of his youth in La Neuveville, along the shores of the beautiful lake of Biel.
Hard Rock and Metal music were the first genres that seriously triggered his interest in the electric guitar. Today, he remains active in the second genre as the guitarist of Nevborn, a progressive metal band from Neuchâtel, and with his own progressive metal band: NEPTA. He is also a co-organiser of the Lucifest Metal Festival in Neuchâtel.
Julien made his way into jazz music via his studies at the Swiss Jazz School – where he studied the guitar with Jörg Enz – and later at Bern’s University of the Arts (HKB), where he pursued a master’s degree in music pedagogy and composition. He studied with teachers such as Ronny Graupe, Django Bates, Ralph Alessi, Dejan Terzic, Colin Vallon, Patrice Moret, Tom Arthurs and many more. Besides playing with NEPTA and Nevborn, Julien is also the guitarist of the groove band FUSOOSH!, he plays in the guitar-voice duo Jeen and is the guitarist of the “omnivorous music” quartet Octante-et-Onze. Julien has also been teaching guitar and music theory since 2015, both as a private teacher and in a secondary school. Read more under TEACHING.
